Chapel of St. James the Less

St James the Less Winterbourne Newbury
(01635) 247566
https://www.eastdownland.org.uk

The Church of St James the Less stands on an elevated site nearly half a mile from the village. It was founded in the 12th century, and is a mediaeval building, heavily restored in Victorian times, with an 18th century tower.

A major repair programme was completed in 2003, and further work to install a lavatory at the base of the tower and basic kitchen facilities in the north aisle has also been completed, making the church a more attractive venue for social events in the absence of a village hall.

We hold a BCP Communion at 8.15am on the 1st Sunday of the month, a Parish Communion at 9.30am on the 2nd Sunday and a Family Service at 9.30am on the 4th Sunday.

St James' Winterbourne belongs to the East Downland Benefice. Please see the Benefice website for a list of services for the current month.
